Who we are

Rural Voices is a project with collaboration between artist Carolyn Law and the Lake County Library District, with further support from Lake County Resource Initiative, and Playa Arts & Science Residency.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

To add to the map, we collect your name/email (so we can ask you follow up questions if needed, or easily find you if you ever want your marker removed), and whatever pictures/story you’d like to tell about a Lake County location.

Media

All uploaded files are usually publicly accessible.

If you upload images to the website, you may want to avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included (if you wish to keep that private). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

By default, WordPress does not include a contact form. We use a plugin named “Contact Form 7”. We ask for name, email, message, and confirmation that you are human when you submit a contact form. The form submission is then sent to us and stored in our database. The information submitted through the form is not used for marketing purposes (unless permission is granted to be added to our email list).

Embedded content from other websites

Markers on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. (Youtube, Vimeo, Soundcloud)

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

By default WordPress does not share any personal data with anyone, neither do we.

How long we retain your data

If you place a marker and tell a story, this will remain indefinitely or until you ask us to remove it for you. You can reach us at: https://www.ourlakecounty.org/contact/.Website administrators can see and edit that information.

Where we send your data

Your data is kept on Siteground hosting in the USA.

How we protect your data

We are  helping to protect users’ data by using SSL encryption. Access to our database is limited to only a few people. We also have a security plugin in place to help keep the site safe. The website does collect and store information (like IP addresses in logs) for security purposes and marker locations.
